What It’s Like to Work With Me

Real talk, real connection, real results.

When people start therapy, they often worry: “What if I just end up talking for 50 minutes while someone nods at me?” Or, “What if they don’t get me?”

Here’s the thing—I’m not that kind of therapist. I’m not a blank slate who stares at you and asks, “How does that make you feel?” on repeat. I’m a real human in the room (or on the screen), showing up fully with you—compassionate, engaged, honest, and yes, sometimes funny.

I’m Anastasia Katchan, a licensed clinical social worker and AASECT-certified sex therapist based in Macungie, PA. I work with adults across Pennsylvania who are dealing with trauma, anxiety, ADHD, depression, sexual health concerns, and life transitions like perimenopause or menopause. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned—both professionally and personally—it’s that we all want to feel seen, understood, and empowered to create meaningful change.

A Therapist Who’s Been Through Stuff, Too

I’m not talking at you from some ivory tower. I’ve lived life, had my own struggles, and done my own work. That matters. It shapes how I sit with people—because I know what it’s like to feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected. You’ll never hear judgment from me, only curiosity and compassion. And when it’s helpful, I won’t hesitate to offer perspective, share insights, or help you name the thing that’s hard to say out loud.

How I Show Up in the Room

I bring a mix of warmth, humor, emotional attunement, and grounded practicality. I’m the kind of therapist who might say, “That sounds like a trauma response, not a personality flaw,” and then help you unpack it in a way that feels supportive, not clinical.

I’m emotionally intelligent and deeply present—but I’m also direct. If there’s a pattern holding you back, we’ll talk about it. If you’re spiraling, I’ll help you come back to yourself. If you need tools, you’ll get them. Therapy with me isn’t about staying in the problem—it’s about understanding it so you can move through it.

What You Can Expect in Sessions

  • Real conversation. No jargon. Just a grounded, respectful, collaborative back-and-forth.

  • Emotional depth. We can go deep, but we’ll do it at your pace. I’ll help you build the skills and safety you need to go there.

  • Practical tools. You won’t leave every session with homework (unless you want that), but you will leave with something to reflect on or apply in your real life.

  • Humor and humanity. I use humor to ease shame, create connection, and bring lightness when it’s needed.

My Clients Are:

  • Smart, motivated adults who may look like they have it all together, but inside, feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure

  • People who want more than symptom relief—they’re craving deeper self-understanding and meaningful change

  • Women, men, and LGBTQ+ individuals navigating identity shifts, hormonal transitions, or emotionally intense seasons of life

  • Adults exploring ADHD, trauma, sexual concerns, or just trying to make sense of the question, “Why don’t I feel like myself?”

  • Individuals and couples who value honesty, curiosity, and are open to doing the work, even when it’s hard

You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to be willing to be curious with me.

My Approach Is:

  • Trauma-informed. We honor your nervous system. We don’t bulldoze through tough stuff—we build trust and work with your window of tolerance.

  • Sex-positive and inclusive. As a certified sex therapist, nothing is “too weird” or “too embarrassing.” We can talk about anything—consent, pleasure, libido, identity, relationships—and it’s all welcome.

  • Holistic and collaborative. You’re the expert on your life. I’m here to help you see what’s hard to see, shift what’s no longer working, and build what’s been missing.

  • Non-pathologizing. You’re not broken. Your symptoms are signals. Let’s get curious about what they’re trying to tell us.

Therapy With Me Is Not:

  • A quick fix (though sometimes small changes lead to big shifts)

  • Endless venting with no direction

  • Passive or one-sided

  • About becoming someone else

It is about returning to yourself—your clarity, your values, your strength, your voice.

If You're Wondering...

  • “Will she just tell me to meditate and journal?” - Only if those things are your thing. If not, we’ll find what actually works for you.

  • “Can I talk about sex, trauma, ADHD, menopause, relationships, and work stress all in the same session?” - Absolutely. Life doesn’t happen in categories. Neither does therapy.

  • “What if I cry the whole time?” - That’s totally fine. There’s no wrong way to show up. If you cry, I’ll hold space for it. If you make a sarcastic joke, I’ll probably laugh. If you’re silent, I won’t fill it with noise.

Let’s Find Out What Works for You

Therapy with me is a space where you can exhale. A space where you don’t have to be “on.” A space to feel, process, untangle, and recalibrate.

And you don’t have to know exactly what you need in order to start. If you’re feeling the pull to explore therapy, that’s enough. We’ll figure the rest out together.
